Documentary Close To Completion
(August, 2018) A documentary funded by Spring Green highlighting the opioid crisis in our nation is soon to be submitted to film festivals. To date, over 29,000 individuals have viewed the middle and high school film titled “Chasing Hope” which was released in August of 2017.
In the upcoming film (title to be announced), two individuals are highlighted as we listen to them share their journey through addiction. Nicole, a young woman who grew up in small town Luckey, Ohio, talks openly about her experimentation with drugs in high school which shifted over to heroin after an ATV accident.
Tito grew up on the streets of South Side Toledo, Ohio, where he quickly became the ‘man’ of the house after his father was incarcerated for murder. Taking his anger out through violence, Tito found himself fighting constantly, involved in street gangs and using and selling drugs. Despite his gifted talent of singing that landed him a recording contract with Sony Records, Tito’s addiction led him to lose everything after the death of his sister.
While this film is candid and shows addiction as it is, it offers a different perspective; hope. It demonstrates the power of connection and how vital community is toward healing and staying clean. Life experiences that are traumatic and then hidden through shame and secrecy play out powerfully years later. It doesn’t have to be that way, we’d like to show you why.
